Emotional Disturbances
What are they? (Def.)
Within the umbrella term of emotional disturbance, conditions such as anxiety disorders, bipolar disorders, behavioral disorders, eating disorders, obsessive compulsive disorders and psychotic disorders are included.

"(B) An inability to build or maintain satisfactory interpersonal relationships with peers and teachers."

IDEA's definition of emotional disturbances is following: "A condition exhibiting one or more of the following characteristics over a long period of time and to a marked degree that adversely affects a child's educational performance:"

Strategies
Establishing routines: Have the students know what they need to do when they are in the classroom. By repeating routines, students can expect what is to come next
Reward Systems: Reward students so that they want to continue positive behaviors both educationally and socially.
Expectations: Make the classroom behavioral expectations known to the students very clearly; make sure to follow through when the expectations are not met.
Objectives: Make the learning objectives clear to the students so that they can provide students with the sense of accomplishments when those objectives are reached.
Inclusion: It is important to let the students with ED that they are included in class for they already feel left due to their emotional states.
