Results

Britain gained a year to build up its armed force, but so did Hitler.

Hitler decided that Britain and France were afraid of him and would not step in to stop him, no matter what he did.

Czechoslovakia was weakened. Poland and Hungary took other land.

Many of Hitlers complaints appeared reasonable at the time especially about the Treaty of Versailles.

Chamberlain wanted a strong Germany to serve as a barrier against expansion by communist Russia.

British Troops wanted peace-they would not have supported a war in 1938.

Munich: In 1939, Britain and France gave Hitler the Sudetenland and after encouraging the Sudeten Nazis to demand union in Germany

Czechoslovakia: When Hitlers troops marched into the rest of Czechoslovakia in 1939, Britain realized to stop Hitler they would need a war.

Conscription and Re-Armament: In 1935, Hitler began to build up his armed forces.This broke the Treaty, but Britain and France did nothing.

USSR/Nazi Pact: Hitler threatened to take over Poland in the summer of 1939. He also made a secret treaty with Russia.

SAAR Plebiscite: Saar was under control of the League for 15 years. Saar is cited by historians as the first step to war.

Poland: In April 1939, Chamberlain announced the Polish guarantee. On 1939, Hitler invaded Poland. On 1939, Chamberlain declared war on Germany.

Germans hated the treaty and Hitler promised to destroy as it was so unfair it undermined western politicians.

The League was weak and it was to ambitious.

Hitler wasn't only correcting the mistakes of the treaty he was also taking what wasn't his.

Hitler's pact with Russia gave him the green light to go to war. Historians said if he had been faced with fighting Britain, France, Russia, and Poland he wouldn't have gone to war.
