Formative Assessment
The collecting of information or idea about student learning within the classroom that is used to guide improvements in teaching lessons and student learning.

Interim/Benchmark Assessments
Periodically taken tests throughout the school year that provides low-level and little to no student feedback
Examples: Unit test; end of six weeks project
Summative Assessment
The collecting of information at the end of a course or the end of the school year to improve student learning or to meet accountability demands.
Examples: Final exams; district assessment
Performance Assessment
A form of testing where students must complete a task instead of answering from pre-made test questions and answers.
Examples: Group projects; portfolios
Diagnostic Assessment
This type of testing informs teachers of student achievement gaps and is usually taken before a course or unit.
Examples: Pre-test; questionairre
