Storage Devices-used to store both the data that a computer system processes and the software programs that tell how to process the data
Primary storage- refers to high speed, electronic memory found inside a computer
Random Access Memory- (RAM) a temporary storage area for programs and data that are being used in a given moment

Types of computers
Supercomputers -largest, fastest, and most expensive computers available

Desktops- common in home, offices, and schools due to being cheaper than laptops
laptops- portable computers from those designed for simple internet access and word processing, powerful enough to replace desktop
Netbooks- laptop computer with lower specifications than normal, designed for maximum probability
smartphones- devices with built in camera, ability to record sound, videos, and imaged. Many run on apps that add more functions that the contact mangers, calendars, and reminder features; they perform same function as GPS
Home Theater PCs- desktop computers designed specifically for multimedia entertainment in the household, including accessing internet, viewing films, and listening to music
PDAs- somewhere between mobile phones and netbooks; they're usually referred to as palmtop computers. usually have a larger screen than a mobile phone and they don't have a keyboard which makes it used for touch input using a soft keyboard or handwriting recognition

ASCII- (American Standard Coding for Information Interchange) a standard coding scheme for representing text using the English alphabet

Processor Technology- responsible for performing all instructions and tasks that the computer does (CPU) central processing unit
Clock speed- measured in megahertz (MHz) or Gigahertz (GHz) ; speed at which processor executes instructions
MIPS- (Millions of instructions per second) is another measure of processor performance; possible to quote misleading figures
