Definition of leadership:
It is the ability to direct people and positively influence them, so they can follow and obey you.
3 different types:
Autocratic leadership
Democratic leadership
Laissez faire leadership
Autocratic leadership
The manager makes all the decisions without ever asking the employees for their opinion
He gives orders and expects them to obey without question.
He may use fear and threats to get his own way. Employees don't trust the manager.
example is the army
Democratic Leadership
The manager involves employees when making decisions
He invites them to discuss the issues and takes their views into account.
The manager delegates work to the employees as he trusts them.
example is google
Laissez faire leadership
The manager does not interfere very much with how employees do their work.
He delegates a lot because he trusts his employees
He gets employees to go along with him by reasoning with them and explaining things to them.
example is a surgeon
Definition of delegation:
A manager assigns authority to an employee to carry out some task or project for him.
He gives the employee the power to do some of his management work for him
He will hold the employee in charge for doing a good job.
The employee is responsible and needs to be trustworthy.
