- - - - Information is intangible . Everyday terminology can cause confusion e.g. document - physical, digital or both?
- - - - More effort put into organising the easier it is to retrieve information.
      - Resources - broad term: "anything of value that can support goal-orientated activity" pp.8
        
        Internet: resources means webpages, videos, images etc. These are accessed by a URI.
        
        In organising systems: we have description resources (metadata), primary resources and even people. These boundaries can be blurry. e.g. meta-data about where an artefact (type of animal specimen or fossil) was found may be considered a primary resource for a scientist studying migration.
      - Purpose - so resources can be located and accessed later
    - - Other disciplines for which organising in an issue: information science, computer science, business, economics.Different objectives e.g. customer satisfaction, efficiency, system architecture.
    - - Intentional arrangement - arranged intentionally by people or on behalf of people using computers.
        
        Self organising systems - can change structure based upon feedback - I imagine this relates more to structures in the digital realm.
      - Organising principles - directives for the design or arrangement of a collection
        
        Three tiers: presentation (catalogue), logic (Library of Congress), storage (shelves)
