Colonial Acts
Sugar Act - 1764
About - Revenue raising tax for Britain. British were in debt from war (French & Indian War). Taxed Sugar, spices, and lumber.
Colonists Reaction - The colonists boycotted many of the products. They also protested on this concern.
British Reaction - Hurt the British because less people were buying goods. The act was then repealed in 1776.
About - Impsed to pay for British Troops. Tax on every piece of paper Colonists used. Ship's papers, legal documents, licenses, and newspapers.
Colonists Reaction - "No Taxation without Representation". Formed secret groups ( Sons of Liberty). Courts were shut down because people refused to buy stamps. Boycotts started happening.

About - Made Colonists quarter British soldiers. Soldiers were able to stay in colonists home and use their supplies
Colonists Reaction - Did not like the act at all. Thought it went againstthe Bill of Rights of 1689.
British Reaction - Told the Colonists that it was the right things to do. That they should respect the troops because they fight for the colonists.
About - Tax on imported products to the colonies, like glass, lead, paints, paper and tea

About - Shut down the Boston Harbor. Would reopen once colonists pay for loss of tea. Act was used to punish the colonies after the Boston Tea Party.
Colonists Reaction - Boycotted against the act. Established First Continental Congress. Which they revolted against the British rule.
British Reaction - Insisted the laws were made to help colonies with the government and put less burden on them
