hermaphrodites
--> person who has complete set of both male and female reproductive organs
--> wrong term for people who dont match expected phenotype
--> called intersex now!
Turner Syndrome
--> only affects women
--> only one X chromosome
--> affects 1 in 2500 women
--> short, underdeveloped breasts, infertile
Klinefelter’s Syndrome
--> only affects males
--> males (XY) get additional X chromosome (XYX)
--> breast development
--> small testes and penis
--> many dont identify male
Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia
--> only affects women
--> prenatal exposure to very high amount of Androgens (testosteron)
--> causes male genital characteristics to emerge
--> often diagnosed at puberty
Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome
--> Genetically = male (XY)
--> but mutated Androgen receptors (testosteron cant bind)
---> difference in sex depends on how much insensitivity
