Plagiarism: The act of using someone else ideas or wording, and not giving credit to the author.
To avoid plagiarism you can cite and source where you go the information
Don't COPY and Paste another persons words or ideas.... unless you give credit
Summarizing, Paraphrasing and Quotes
Paraphrasing
Text in your words- if needed don't look at the text
Quotes
Exact words from the author surrounded in quotation marks
Summarizing
Needs to be cited - is a shortened version of the text with key parts
Cornell Notes
Cornell notes help you organize your information and helps you remember it
Cornell notes were made for students test scores to improve
Helps you consider how the text is related to the text
It is made up of questions, notes, name, date, title, essential question, and a summary text
MLA Citations
Are pre-made citations that have everything needed
Helps readers know where you got your information
It makes you a credible and reliable source
We use MLA citations specifically up until the 12th grade
Credibility and Reliability
If credible the authors name is mostly in the text and they have citations
If unreliable the date can be very old and have outdated information
Credible sources can be .org, .edu, and .gov
Keywords and Research Questions
Find an idea for a topic
Test the internet to find information
Change topics if necessary or continue researching
May need to tweek topic
Repeat a couple of times
Write report over new topic
