If I was to ignore what someone said based on the color of their skin I would be listening through the prejudice barrier. 
The best way to improve improve on this barrier is to simply let go of the filters you have on people and be open-minded about the situation.
It would not be sexist if you take the gender into consideration, but it would be if you believed one sex had authority over another.

Premature Judgment
It happens when you just assume what the speaker will say next.
I would be premature judging if I just assumed what symptoms the patient was going to tell me.
