DESE Concept 1: "Knowledge of the principles expressed in documents shaping republic in the United States"
Learning Activity: I'd divide the class into groups, assigning each group an Amendment within the Bill of Rights, using Google Slides the groups must create a "slide" and present in-class
As the teacher, I would set up and share the initial Google Slide Presentation with students, inviting them to edit and create a class file on the Amendments. Additionally I'd facilitate conversations, clarifying questions on "freedoms of speech" and our lack of inclusion of the right to privacy.
-
Finally, to assess the students on their understanding of the Bill of Rights I would create a Google Sheet (set up as a grading quiz)
-
As teacher, I'd complete the Google Slide for the first Amendment, modeling my expectations for the presentations.
-
-
Lesson goals: For students to fully grasp the importance of our nation's Constitution, highlighting the changes that have been made through the Bill of Rights (and additional Amendments). Students, in 6th grade are expected to have learned about the Amendments in prior grades, thus this should be a lesson which touches upon prior knowledge and goes deeper.
Dese Concept 3a: "Knowledge of continuity and change in the history of Missouri and the United States"
Learning Activity: Using Google Slides split the class into three big groups and each group do a three-slide powerpoint pinpointing changes in Missouri since the Civil War in either education, transportation, or communication.
Regarding Missouri History, Thomas Jefferson played a huge role (specifically with the Louisiana Purchase), as teacher, I'd lead students through a powerpoint (using Google Slides) similar to:
After doing the group projects, I would have my students write a paper on Missouri's role in the Civil War using Google Documents

As a teacher, after the students present their google slides to the classroom, I would come up with a outline on google documents of the main ideas from the students slides and I would incorporate material they left out.

DESE Concept #4: "Knowledge of Economic Concepts (including productivity and the market system) and principles (including the laws of supply and demand)
Learning activity: Divide the students into small groups, each group will receive a vocabulary or concept word that they will do research on and present to the class in a fun, memorable way using Google Slides. The students will be presenting on basic knowledge of the word and should be able to tie the economic concept to a historical event, for example discussing supply and demand during the Great Depression.
Teacher Role: Provide each student with the resources they need to present the slide. I will also have to help them build on their prior knowledge to connect new concepts with already learned material.
Learning Assessment: After each student has presented their new concept, challenge them by having them think of how the concepts are used in their everyday life. This will help them see the economic concepts and principles in the past and in the present.
-
Learning Assessment Continued: To help students create the link of economic concepts to their life has them create a chart. This will give the students the chance to make a visual connection with each new concept.
Lesson: Teacher presents the Economic concepts with a short explanation of each word. The students will do the more in depth research of each word. The teacher will provide a list containing each economic vocabulary word for students to look back on when studying and while completing this activity.
