Believed children learn in a series of events and as we grow up we create schemas
Schemas: are developed based on information provided by life experiences and are then stored in memory
2 concepts of schemas
Assimilation:we interpret things based on current schemas current ideas
Accommodate: Adapting current schemas to new information.
Stages of Development
Stage 1 (baby-2yrs) : Experience the world through senses and actions.
VOCAB
object permanence: awareness of objects being present even if can't be seen...... stranger anxiety: crying in stranger's arms
Stage 2 (preoperational 2-6yrs) representing things with words and images but lacking logical reasoning

egocentric: all about the child and not of opposite view..... pretend play: imaginary friends, play house
Stage 3 (concrete operational 7-11yrs) think logically about events, can perform mathematical operations
VOCAB
conservation: properties such as mass volume, and number remain the same despite changes in form or shape

Conventional Morality (early adolescence): starts to care for others, upholds law and social rules simply because they are laws and rules
As adolescents they will choose the legal thing because it is correct
Post Conventional morality: people's agreed upon rights or follows what one personally perceives as basic ethical principles
Its up to the little girl to decide whether or not she invited her to her party because of her ideals
Preconventional Morality (Before age 9): kids obey parents either to avoid punishment or to gain concrete rewards

develop trust with parents for food, warmth and affection

"who am i ?" works on social interactions and moral development

people look to help the next generation
