Annexation of Texas- the incorporation of Texas into the Union as a slave state in 1845. At first, the union was against it, for northerners didn't want another slave state, but the election of Polk led tot he war as h e wanted new territory like California, New Mexico etc.Texas declared independence from Mexico on March 2, 1836.
