Future Architecture
-
Support a new strategic initiative, operation requirement or technology solution

Current Architecture
-
-
-
important for project planning, asset management and investment decision making.

EA Approach
The framework, analysis/design method, and artifact set
It is the framework which changes with each new technology and not just the picture within the frame. — Marshall McLuhan
Identifies the scope of the architecture to be developed
and establishes relationships between the architecture’s areas
The framework creates an abstracted set of “views” of an enterprise through the way that it collects and organizes architecture information.
EA³ Cube Framework
-
Segments:
Line Of Business
-
Example of Apple BOL: Computing Hardware & Software, Mobile Devices, and the iTunes Store
Architecture Segments
A part of the overall EA that documents one or more lines of business at all levels and threads. (Stand alone)
-
To lower risk and promote efficient, phased implementation methods
Artifacts : The documentation of components at each level of the architecture, including all threads
EA Management Plan
EA Users : Identify senior business and IT executives to gather knowledge about the strategic and operational needs and requirements of the organization.
EA Organization : Form and EA team by selecting an EA coordinator and the other required EA and support staff, and appointing them on a formal basis, and with a charter and specific time table, budgets and responsibilities.
EA Preliminary Study : Carry out a requirements analysis and prepare a feasibility study that includes a list of EA demands and expectations, focusing on critical areas of business processes, information and data, and technology.
EA Communication : Devise and execute communication plan with relevant methods, tools and services.
EA Demands Documentation : Review and document EA demands and expectations, focusing on critical areas of business processes, information and data, and technology.
As a management program
Strategic Alignment
Connects goals, activities, resources

-
Development projects: should be reviewed to
determine if they support the enterprise’s
strategic goals

Decision Support
-
Management Level
-
Alignment of IT initiative with technical standards for voice, data, video and security
Staff Level
Regarding operations, maintenance and development IT resources and services
Resource Oversight
-
Enterprise Architect enables the Project Manager or Development Manager to assign resources directly to model elements, all within EA itself.
How you allocate resources to your model is at your discretion – some managers might assign developers to Use Cases and track their progress against these. Others might use classes or components. Others might use all three.
Tracking resources for the life of your project is an important part of delivering your project on time and on budget.
What is EA Activities
Enterprise Architecture Activities is accomplished through a Management Program and an analysis and design method
