ISO 42010 (Architectural Descriptions (An architecture description…
ISO 42010
Purpose
The concepts of architecture have not
been consistently defined and applied
within the systems life cycle
The ISO 42010 standard presents a
conceptual model (core ontology) for the
expression, communication and review of
architectures of systems.
-
The concept of system
A system is a set of connected or related
elements that perform functions that
cannot be performed by them alone
Software Systems
System-of-interest
a man-made system comprised of hardware,
software, data, humans, processes and
procedures facilities, materials and naturally
occurring entities
-
individual applications, subsystems, systems
of systems, product lines, product families,
whole enterprises, or other aggregations of
interest
-
-
Architecture
An architecture of a system is
fundamentally concerned with how
a system is organized into its
constituents elements and how
these elements relate to each other
to achieve a given purpose.
(Len Bass et al., 2003)
-
-
Designing architectures
process of conceiving, defining, expressing,
documenting, communicating, certifying proper
implementation of, maintaining and improving an
architecture throughout a system’s life cycle
-
Architecture frameworks
An architecture framework establishes a
common practice for creating, interpreting,
analyzing and using architecture descriptions
within a particular domain of application or
stakeholder community
