Participatory Democracy & Common Law Case Precedent
ICWA (history of this?)
This was created to preserve Native Children in 1978
In the 1950s and 1960s, the Indian Adoption Project placed hundreds of Native American children with white parents.
Native children were being taken from their families and tribes. 25%-35% of all Native children were being removed and about 85% of these children were placed in outside communities and families. Even if their own family was fit to take care of them.
Government and Natives did not get along well
Trail of Tears (1838-1839): Natives forcibly removed from their homes in the south and moved to the midwest
When we first settled here the English treated the Natives as an obstacle to get land (1492)
Spanish enslaved them
Tried to get them to become Catholic
Additional laws pertaining to Native Americans that can be applicable?

NEEDED TO GO DOWN THIS PATH
Mixed Economy
Bureau of Indian Affairs (B.I.A.) How does the tribal life work in the USA? How are Native Americans living via the reservation system? How does the economy work on the reservations.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs’ (1924) mission is to enhance the quality of life, to promote economic opportunity, and to carry out the responsibility to protect and improve the trust assets of Native Americans.
Tribal life in the USA
Economy: Natives have become wealthier in the past few years they began getting more involved and started trading with Asia. Their poverty rate has to do with that most are jobless and homes do not cost much for them.
HOW DO NATIVES TRAD WITH ASIANS?
How they live on the reservation: life on reservations can be seen as third world. Many people live in small cramped houses with only 4-8 out of 10 adults working. The ones who are employed are getting below poverty wages. Heart disease is the leading cause of Native deaths. Health has improved but life expectancy is still lower than the average american
