Olympian Gods and Goddesses
Socrates/Plato: SUN/son =goodness (truth, word ,logos).
Believed the soul came from goodness into the body.
The body corrupts the soul, and it works back to goodness.

ROMAN
Mainly adapted from Greek Olympians, alined with local code
STOICISM: DIVINE FIRE = GOD. Human soul comes from God into a human. No physical representation. God is manifested as "reason" within us. Stoicism states that there is no afterlife. And that the body/drive of pleasure is the tainting factor. bravery, self-control, justice, and wisdom are four cardinal factors of Stoicisim. Goal is to accept ones situation no matter what, and find tranquility of mind.
Human-like characteristics. Not perfect. Humans like Julius Cesar were deemed deity, sometimes for political reasons.
RELIGIOUS SPECIALIST
GREEK
PRIESTS/leaders of local cults: conducted ceremonies and delivered prayers. Position open to all, but once became a priest, your body became inviolate. Certain priests served certain gods. The exegetes, or oracles, were those who could answer questions and the knowledgeable religious consultant
Philosophers such as Socrates
and student Plato were specialist
in their method.
ROMAN
Stoic philosophers such as Marcus Aurelius and Zeno were specialists of stoicism
PRIESTS: AGURES - elected for life. Ability to read and interpret signs from the gods. Watch natural phenomena to learn reaction gods had to certain decisions. PRIESTS: Collegium Pontificum - four branches and most important priests. Controlled state religion. Determined festival dates, legal days, and assisted emperor who was head priest.
SYMBOLS

others medicine and healing, others wealth,
and others of importance to gods.
Most symbols were shared across
Greek and Roman religious cultures.
Cacedeus (later double helix DNA strand) was depicted as staff of certain gods, and said to hold supernatural power in its shape of opposing serpents. Called Asclepius Wand/Rod in Greek culture.For medicine and power and healing in Greece.

LABRYS (double-headed ax) Formally a symbol of greek fascism. Current day as LGBT symbol for matriarchal power.
RITUALS

depended on the god being
worshipped. ex. god of sea worshipped
with altar surrounded by sea.
Ceremonies were at altars outside the temples.

MYTHS
CHAOS (nothingness) -> GAIA (earth) and TARTUS (underworld). Eros (god of love) created next and had many children with Gaia. These children gave birth to more gods who gave birth to TITANS, then OLYMPIANS.
