        Therefore not whole class situation
      - PROCESSES
        
        Gradually internalise prompts and cues
        
        as part of their system
        
        means they hv become independent learners
        
        Drill & practise & independence in these skills are important
      - In homogenous grp settings (MAX: 6 ppl)
        
        observe pupil's behaviour closely to see the processes by which they are creating meaning from the text
        
        Offer prompts to develop strategies which are within their learning zone
        
        Based on running records, we prompt them for the use of a certain strategy.
        
        Articulate it for them, make it explicit and
        
        Illicit the strategies from them
        
        To ensure teaching becomes effective
        
        Develop skills of listening and talking which will develop their pupils' thinking
        
        By pushing them to explain, justify and analyse to relate to the reading
  - - - As they get more confident
        
        from decoding (from being able to read word)
        
        to understanding the text (comprehension)
        
        and inference (what do you think?)
      - Eg
        
        "How do we know this character is gg to do this?
        
        Get them to infer key words
        
        Explain that key words means what they should look out for
      - ORGANIZING THE GR LESSON
        
        Choose books that have pictures for read aloud, short stories, 4-5 short sentences a page and with a twist to motivate the LA readers.
        
        INTRODUCING & USING THE TEXT
        (activate prior knowledge, discuss cover, est purpose for reading, take a picture walk)
        
        OBSERVATION DURING READING
        (fluency, strategy use by kids, growth and regrping possibilites, teaching pt to emphasise, strong pts to praise)

        don't read any of the words
        
        look at pictures ONLY
        
        ask "What do you think is happening here?"
        
        Then read the story
        
        compare guesses
        
        AFTER READING
        Students to:
        (retell story, share fave part, demo reading strategy)
        
        Eg:
        
        Who was the main character in the story?
        
        What happened in the story?
        
        Where did the story take place?
        
        What was your fave part of the story and why?
        
        Can you find the word / letter xxx?
        
        WHAT'S THE POINT OF ALL THIS QNS?
        
        So we can know which level of compre they're at.
        
        Thus work on qn strategy to help them understand

        (Assess pupils thru running records)
        (Est grps of 4-6 pax who are reading at similar levels)
        
        SELECTING TEXTS
        (supportive and predictable texts)
        (levels books that match grp's needs)
      - STRATEGIES TO TEACH / PROMPT
        Use letter / sound knowledge to:
        
        notice mismatches
        
        know how words begin
        
        to solve words
        
        to check on reading
        
        Listen in to indiv:
        
        to assist with problem solving
        
        reading a segment of text orally
      - What is my role as a teacher?
        
        Observe reading behavours, make notes abt strategy use of indiv readers
        
        While kid reads, tr to listen and analysse how pupil is processing the text
        
        Occ, tr help indiv reader to problem-solve or exchange a quick comment abt the story
