        The White Garment: the symbol of baptism (white=purity), the white garment is used to demonstrate that someone has been made clear of their sin
    - - Baptism for infants usually occurs at mass.
        There are two readings and a Gospel followed by a homily
        Then there is a prayer of exorcism and anointing before baptism
        Blessing and invocation of God over baptism water
        Renunciation of sin and profession of faith

        Anointing with chrism, Clothing with white garment, LIghted candle, and Ephphetha
      - Baptism for adults:Adult baptism occurs at the Easter Vigil along with other sacraments
        Adults do many other things weeks before the Vigil to prepare for their baptism
    - - Baptism is the rite for people who have heard the mystery of Christ be proclaimed, and want to freely seek God and enter into a life of faith.
        There are 3 essential elements that need to be present which are the Trinitarian Formula, a minister of the Church and the washing of water. These have to be present for Baptism to be true.
        Baptism is essentially a spiritual journey that differs according to the various forms of God’s grace paired with the involvement of the individual and the action of the Church. They all work together!
        Baptism helps strengthen the spirituality of people so that they can receive the Sacraments fruitfully
        There are steps in Baptism that help mark the progress:
        Initial point of conversion where one wishes to become Christian
        Progression of faith where one is accepted into preparation for the Sacraments
        When spiritual preparation is complete, they receive the Sacraments of Christian initiation
    - - Signs:
        -Water: the act of washing of water is the essential element of baptism, and is therefore a sign of the rite
        -Trinitarian Formula: it is said before the rite begins, and is an indication that the recipient of Baptism is entering into the extraordinary
      - Symbols: -A Candle: symbolizes the light of Christ; Christ told us to be baptized so this candle represents His presence in the rite of Baptism
        -A white cloth: white symbolizes purity; when the white cloth is placed over the infant it purifies them and makes them clear of sin
    - - Ephphetha(or prayer over ears and mouth):
        
        for an infant it is at the very end of the rite
        
        for adults it is during the preparation
        
        When:
        
        Adults usually get baptized during the Easter Vigil
        
        Infants can be baptized at any time
        
        Process:
        
        Adults have to go through classes to prepare for their baptism
        
        Infants are too young to go to classes so their parents are required to go to classes
        
        Chrism:
        
        Infants receive the chrism during their baptism
        
        Adults do not always receive the chrism during their baptism because they will receive it soon after during the sacrament of confirmation
- - - - ~Starting on the seventeenth day of the second month the lord made it rain for 40 days and 40 nights

        ~The world was covered in water
        ~Everything not on the ark was killed
        ~Water covered the earth for 150 days.
        ~This relates back to baptism. God “cleansed the Earth with water” just as he cleansed our souls when we are baptized. We are born into new life just like the rest of the world was.

- - - - What happens to unbaptized babies? Well it is known that nothing impure can enter the Kingdom of God and by being human, babies intrinsically have originally sin, which renders them impure. So, babies cannot enter Heaven, this only leaves hell, right? Well many catholics have chosen to add a layer of sugar with the idea of a Limbo, a Godless place that is not necessarily bad. This space holds all beings that could not be saved due to either lack of baptism or lack of Jesus. While this sounds like a better alternative, there is no real evidence of its existence, leading by-the-book Catholics to conclude that hell is the final destination of these babies.
