Limited government is the idea that government power should be restricted by laws this is very important in the limiting of government power .
separation of power is a model for the state government that it should be separated into branches each with separate powers.
checks and balances is when each branch of the government had an influence on each other and may block procedures of other branches.
Popular sovereignty is closely related to the social contract the idea that the peoples rule is the authority of the state .

life liberty and the pursuit of happiness, basically the idea that you should be a able to pursue your goals without any interference , within reason.

Virginia plan
The plan was derived from James Madison,the Virginia plan was meant to set an overall agenda for debate in the convention. As well as setting the idea of population weighted representation in the national legislator.
The New Jersey Plan
This was the proposal that William Patterson made at the constitutional convention, in response to the Virginian plan. This called for two houses of congress both elected by the population.
During the constitutional convention of 1787 an agreement was made that there would be a proportional representation of the states in the lower house, but required that the upper house be weighted equal as well.each state would have two representatives in the upper house. Great compromise
The Slave trade compromise resolved the issue of the commerce of the slave trade. this emerged at the constitutional convention of 1787. A compromise was reached that they would not prohibit the slave trade
when we vote we are voting for presidential electors each state is assigned a number of electors these numbers range from three to 54. This was established in the constitutional convention of 1787. this gives the less populated states more leverage.
