As the League Of Nations was closely associated with the harsh Treaty Of Versailles, this gave it a bad start. The peacekeeping methods used were not sufficient in protecting world peace. An example would be during the Manchurian crisis, where moral persuasion would just not work against aggressors like Japan. There were other methods, such as imposing economic sanctions, but the members of the League feared the negative consequences and as such never imposed them. Military force was not an option for the League as it did not have its own army. In addition, it had to rely on contributions from members to form an army, which the members were unwilling to do so. Hence, aggressors need not fear the League since it could not enforce decisions against aggressors, making its lack of authority and credibility a structural weakness of the League.
