Social- In the southeast, the Republican party critiques social issues such as abortion, gun control, some federal policies, and racial discrimination. Those are just many common issues in the United States in general. There could be conflict when it comes to religion as well. Most of the population in this region follow Christianity. Just like many things, people like to think what they have or believe in is better than others. This causes lots of drama and tension between the religions. There have been violent protests about the past leaders of the Civil War. People have come together as hate groups to destroy the historic statues, and protest about having them there. People were hurt during this outbreak, both physically and mentally. Someone drove their car to flee while hitting someone on the way, and people are questioning themselves if this is right or wrong. The cause of this outbreak relates back to the racism. When a white supremacist shot and killed 9 African American people in a church. They later posted images of the Confederate Flag, after the shooting.
Historical- Many years ago in this area, this region was used for farming. Lots of slavery took place in this area as well. This region was where the early colonization days had taken place. As well as where some of the Louisiana purchase and the Spanish concession. Also, many people in this region have had their mixed feelings on the historical statues of the leaders of the Civil war. They have had violent protests about the statues of the Confederate leader General E. Lee.
Economic- The southeast is a quickly growing area with a population of about 58 million people, however, there had been a large loss of jobs for people who had worked in apparel and textile industries. Many people in the Southeast haven’t adjusted to the fast changing technology and global pressures.
Environmental- Recently, Florida and Louisiana have been hit with hurricanes. People near the coastal areas of those states are rebuilding, or moving out of the area because of the hurricanes. However, despite the hurricanes in Florida and Louisiana, the Southeast has been experiencing serious drought conditions.
Political- Some issues within politics lately have mostly been about topics of same-sex marriage and immigrants. As of Oct. 27, 2014, states within the Southeast that have approved of same-sex marriage are North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia. States like South Carolina, Virginia, North Carolina, Alabama, and Florida used to have bans against same-sex marriage before the Obergefell v. Hodges decision of June 26, 2015, where it was decided that making it forbidden for two people to get married is actually unconstitutional.
