- - - - Recently, Florida and Louisiana have been hit with hurricanes. People near the coastal areas of those states are rebuilding, or moving out of the area because of the hurricanes. However, despite the hurricanes in Florida and Louisiana, the Southeast has been experiencing serious drought conditions.
    - - Social- In the southeast, the Republican party critiques social issues such as abortion, gun control, some federal policies, and racial discrimination. Those are just many common issues in the United States in general. There could be conflict when it comes to religion as well. Most of the population in this region follow Christianity. Just like many things, people like to think what they have or believe in is better than others. This causes lots of drama and tension between the religions. There have been violent protests about the past leaders of the Civil War. People have come together as hate groups to destroy the historic statues, and protest about having them there. People were hurt during this outbreak, both physically and mentally. Someone drove their car to flee while hitting someone on the way, and people are questioning themselves if this is right or wrong. The cause of this outbreak relates back to the racism. When a white supremacist shot and killed 9 African American people in a church. They later posted images of the Confederate Flag, after the shooting.
        Historical- Many years ago in this area, this region was used for farming. Lots of slavery took place in this area as well. This region was where the early colonization days had taken place. As well as where some of the Louisiana purchase and the Spanish concession. Also, many people in this region have had their mixed feelings on the historical statues of the leaders of the Civil war. They have had violent protests about the statues of the Confederate leader General E. Lee.
        Economic- The southeast is a quickly growing area with a population of about 58 million people, however, there had been a large loss of jobs for people who had worked in apparel and textile industries. Many people in the Southeast haven’t adjusted to the fast changing technology and global pressures.
        Environmental- Recently, Florida and Louisiana have been hit with hurricanes. People near the coastal areas of those states are rebuilding, or moving out of the area because of the hurricanes. However, despite the hurricanes in Florida and Louisiana, the Southeast has been experiencing serious drought conditions.
        Political- Some issues within politics lately have mostly been about topics of same-sex marriage and immigrants. As of Oct. 27, 2014, states within the Southeast that have approved of same-sex marriage are North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia. States like South Carolina, Virginia, North Carolina, Alabama, and Florida used to have bans against same-sex marriage before the Obergefell v. Hodges decision of June 26, 2015, where it was decided that making it forbidden for two people to get married is actually unconstitutional.
    - - Character of Place - Physical
        
        Climate Zones- The climate zone that you can find in this region is humid subtropical. Since the southeast is towards the equator, it would make sense that it is subtropical. Places towards the equator tend to be hotter since it’s not close to the north or south pole. Also, this part of the sphere or earth gets more sunlight. It is also just above the tropical zone, which makes it subtropical.
        Vegetation Zones - In the southeast, the vegetation zones are the temperate deciduous forest, subtropical evergreen forest, coniferous forest, and tropical grassland. Some of these vegetation zones, like the coniferous forest, are only found in the southeast with maybe a bit of it spilling into the other regions. They can also be found in state parks throughout the southeast, the uniqueness of each zone helping drawn in tourists and maybe even possible future residents. There are also certain species of plants and animals that only live within specific zones, like how Limpkin birds are found only in Florida for America.
        Physical Features- There is the Appalachian mountain running through this region, and rivers such as the Arkansas, and Mississippi River. The Gulf of Mexico is also located in the southeast region of the USA. The bayous and swampland found in Louisiana is something unique to our region as well, as well as magnolia trees.

        Economics
        
        The Southeast has changed dramatically in the last generations. Since 1980, there has been a boom in the Southeast service economy, manufacturing base, and high technology industries. There are 500 companies having headquarters in the Southeast including 20 in Virginia, 16 in Florida, 15 in North Carolina, and 14 in Georgia. This economic expansion has enabled parts of the South to have of some of the lowest unemployment rates in the United States.
        
        Education
        
        There are many universities in the Southeast, include public universities in the country, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, College of William & Mary and University of Georgia, along with the University of Alabama, University of Florida, Auburn University, the Georgia Institute of Technology, LSU, Virginia Tech, and the University of Virginia. There are also some private institutions, including Wake Forest University and Duke University in North Carolina, Tulane University in New Orleans, Morehouse College, Spelman College, Emory University in Atlanta, the University of Miami in Florida, Tuskegee University in Alabama, and Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.

        Muskogean languages, Choctaw, Creek, Cherokee, Caddo. Timucuan languages, Tawasa, Timucua, four Siouan- Catawban languages, Mikasuki, Arikara, Pawnee, Kitsai, Wichita, Adai, Kadohadacho, and Hainai.
        
        Government
        
        The states that are republican are Alabama, West Virginia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North and South Carolina. The only state that is a democratic state is Virginia. This was from the 2016 election.
        
        Religion / Philosophy
        
        The Southeast is sometimes called the “Bible Belt” due to how religious it is and because of how common evangelical Protestantism is. The religion became so popular due to the First and Second Great Awakening during the early 19th century. Both Charleston, South Carolina, and New Orleans have significant Jewish history and population.
        
        Architecture
        
        There are many important artifacts in the Southeast such as Research Triangle Park in Raleigh-Durham which has emerged as a major hub of technology, governmental, and biotechnological research and development, like the Virginia BioTechnology Research Park in Richmond. The Cummings Research Park in Huntsville, Alabama area is the second largest research complex in the nation. Also located in Huntsville, Alabama is the Redstone Arsenal, United States Army Missile Command, The U.S. Space, and Rocket Center, NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center and many other important governments, military, and aerospace agencies.
        
        Clothing
        
        The clothing styles associated with the Southeast are blue jeans pants/shorts, flip flops, cowboy/cowgirl boots, cowboy, cowgirl hats, plaid shirts, t-shirts, tank tops, blue jean jackets, sundresses, sandals, college hats, school merch, and state merch.

        Chess Pie, Cornbread, Southern Fried Chicken, Chicken and Sausage Gumbo, Creole Seasoning, Sweet Potato Pie, Fruitcake Cookies, Mardi Gras King Cake, Collard Greens with Ham Hocks, Sweet Tea, Pralines, Catfish/Fried Catfish, Tex-Mex Cuisine, Crawfish, Chitterlings, ect.

        The entertainment in the Southeast comes from many sources such as music, film, television, and art like most regions.
        There are many popular genres of music in the Southeast such as Blues, Country music, Rock n’ roll, Death metal, and rap music. Soul music was developed in the South by African Americans at the beginning of the 20th century and country music is based on the folk music of white Southerners. In addition, old-time music, gospel music, spirituals, country music, rhythm and blues, soul music, funk, rock and roll, beach music, bluegrass, jazz, zydeco, and Appalachian folk music were also developed in the region. Rock n' roll largely began in the South in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Early rock n' roll musicians from the South include Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis. Recently, the spread of rap music has spread throughout the Southeast, which has led to the new hip-hop culture.
        There have been many popular films that have been set in the cultural background of the south. Some of the most popular movies taking place in the south are Gone with the Wind, To Kill a Mockingbird, Scarface, and an all-time favorite Forrest Gump. Some of the most popular television shows include The Andy Griffith Show, Filler, and an all-time favorite The Golden Girls.
      - Location
        
        The Southeast borders the Northeast, Midwest, and The West. The region includes the states Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, and North Carolina. It also borders the Atlantic ocean. This region is also located just above the equator. It also lands right in the subtropical area of the world.

        Florida, it attracts a lot of people during the spring/summer times because of tourism. This is great for bringing money into the state.
        Georgia is known as the Peach State, but it's also the country's top producer of pecans, peanuts, and Vidalia onions. The state's onions are considered some of the sweetest in the world.
        South Carolina, is a southeastern U.S. state known for its shoreline of subtropical beaches and marshlike sea islands. Coastal Charleston is a historic city, defined by pastel-colored houses, Old South plantations, and Fort Sumter, where the Civil War’s opening shots were fired. To the north is the Grand Strand, a roughly 60-mile stretch of beachfront known for golf courses and the vacation town Myrtle Beach.
        Louisiana is a southeastern U.S. state on the Gulf of Mexico. Its history as a melting pot of French, African, American and French-Canadian cultures is reflected in its Creole and Cajun cultures. The largest city, New Orleans, is known for its colonial-era French Quarter, raucous Mardi Gras festival, jazz music, Renaissance-style St. Louis Cathedral and wartime exhibits at the huge National WWII Museum.

        New Orleans, Louisiana: People love to come here to celebrate Mardi Gras during the early months of the year.
        Miami, Florida: This city is the hotspot for vacations because of it close to the coast. The tourism revenue is great for its economic growth. They could also use this money to help rebuild the city after it was recently hit by hurricane Irma.
        Atlanta, Georgia: This city is known for many different things: its diverse musical heritage, its Southern hospitality, its sports teams, and Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, ‘the world’s busiest passenger airport.’
        Charleston, South Carolina: This city is the South Carolina port city founded in 1670, is defined by its cobblestone streets, horse-drawn carriages and pastel antebellum houses, particularly in the elegant French Quarter and Battery districts. The Battery promenade and Waterfront Park both overlook Charleston Harbor, while Fort Sumter, a federal stronghold where the first shots of the Civil War rang out, lies across the water.
      - Human Environment Interaction
        
        During this time people around the Louisiana, and Florida area are helping each other out with rebuilding after the hurricanes. There are a lot of attractions in this area as well, such as hanging out in Disney world, going and listening to music sessions in New Orleans. People here like to enjoy themselves listening to rock n roll in Tennessee and Kentucky as well.

        Movement INTO the region
        
        There are many reasons why people could move into this region. Jobs is a big one of them. In Alabama there is Protective Life, with the Walmart headquarters are located in Arkansas, The Home Depot headquarters are located in Georgia as well. People seeking for jobs can come here depending on what they like to work as. Many people love to head to Florida during the warm summer/spring times for vacation as well. They have Disney World which is a big hit for little kids. People could also move here because of its lifestyle in the southeast. There are lots of jazz and cajun music that plays in Louisiana.
        
        Movement OUT of the region
        
        Recently there has been lots of hurricanes hitting this part of the United States. Many residents may not feel safe with being in their homeland because of these natural disasters. Also just like any other place, people could move out of here because of finding new jobs in different areas, or seeking better education and pursuing their dream college.
        
        Movement WITHIN the region
        
        One of the cultural things that moved around the region is the incorporation of Native American influence into the food made in the Southeast. Some meals like Brunswick stew are an example of this. Certain song styles were also influenced by other cultures and spread throughout the country. Blues music, for example, was started by slaves in the rural South. Many other song genres like gospel music, rock and roll, and death metal were born in the south
    - - The economy and incredible environment are what would drive most towards the Southeast due to their quick growing population and new jobs. The Southeast has a population of 58 million people due to the region’s beautiful weather, nice lifestyle, economic opportunities, and other amazing reasons. The food culture is very diverse as well. With Cajun cooking and southern cooking, this place is filled with different diverse flavors. There are many other kinds of cooking that we haven’t listed, but we’re sure that there are much more. All of these places have a lot of history, some even dating back to WWI and WWII.
