- - - - Entertainment- Tons of movies are filmed in Hollywood, along with other major cities like Seattle, Denver, and San Francisco. Apple was started in the west as well, and now it dominates almost all forms of digital entertainment. Apple had dominated the world 10 years ago, with the first iphone, now 10 years later, the iPhone 10 is coming, and quickly changing the Entertainment game.
        Entertainment 2- Video games. California has BlizzCon, GDC(Game Developers Conference), Vidcon, PAX east
      - Food - The western United States used to be part of Mexico, so some dishes from the west have their roots in Mexico. California cuisine is very fresh, and has many fruits and vegetables. Very diverse in ethnic groups and so very diverse in food. Many ‘fusion’ restaurants combining these groups.
      - Education- The western US values education just as much as the rest of the country. Utah and Washington rank in the top 10 best states for education as well. Also, California has many great universities like Caltech, Stanford, and Berkeley, USC, and UCLA.
      - Economic- There are lots of tech companies in silicon valley, (Ex. Google) and Las Vegas is known for the gambling that happens in it’s casinos. California is also one of the most expensive places to live.
      - Clothing- A lot of clothing trends come from celebrities,and where do they all live? In Los Angeles or Hollywood. Almost all of trends start in the west. In the southern west area, people will tend to wear light clothing, whereas if you go north it gets heavier.
      - Languages- Since the west is part of the USA, it’s official language is english, but since it was part of Mexico, the second most popular language is Spanish. Also, with the different ethnic groups rooted in california, many languages are spoken there.
      - Architecture- The architecture is mostly modern like the rest of the USA. Some parts are rural and cabin-like and others are urban apartments. For example, San Francisco is known for its houses that are all connected, AND not to mention the golden gate bridge.
      - The government in the western US is pretty much the same as the rest of the states. Each state has it’s own government along with elected representatives in the supreme court. One interesting fact about the west is that one of it’s states, California, has the most electoral votes in the nation.
      - Religion/Philosophy- when Mormonism was a new religion, they were persecuted in the east. Because of this, they travelled on what is known as the Mormon Trail and settled in Utah. Mormonism is really important there, because it had an effect on the laws, architecture, and overall the whole culture. Lots of new-age type stuff is found in california. Billy Graham started in L.A.
