        New York is one of the most well known states in America. New York City is known for being large and crowded. It is densely populated and the people who live there are often very unique and diverse. It is also a very popular tourist destination. Some popular destinations are Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, and Central Park. Outside of the city, New York has forests and farmland.
        
        Massachusetts
        Massachusetts has a lot of colonial history and is home to the historical city of Plymouth. Its capital, Boston, is a very popular city that is also a popular tourist destination. Massachusetts is also home the the popular baseball team, the Boston Red Sox, which have the iconic Fenway Park as their home stadium.
        
        New Jersey
        New Jersey was one of the original 13 colonies. It is known for growing corn, tomatoes, and blueberries. It is also known as the Diner Capital of the World because if it's abundance of diners and diner food.
        
        Maine
        Maine is the northernmost state in America. It is known for it’s rocky coastline and beautiful scenery.Sea food such as lobster is very popular due to the large amount of seaside towns.
        Maryland- Maryland is known for its abundant waterways, one of the most well known ones is Chesapeake Bay. Baltimore and Annapolis are two of its most popular cities.

        The northeast is known to be the home of several big cities. Some of the most popular ones include Boston, New York City, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Pittsburg.
        
        Other perceptual/functional regions of note
        Big cities are known for having a series of subway railways underground since the surface is so full. The subway is a big part of the culture of a big city. The northeast can also be considered to be split up into big cities and farmland/forest, since most of the cities are along the cast and the forests are further inland.
