ABSOLUTE- A DIRECT OR SPECIFIC LOCATION.
LOCATION- A specific position of a place on Earth.
Relative- A location in relation to somewhere else.
Virginia is in relation to New Jersey.
HUMAN ENVIRONMENT INTERACTION- the relationship between people and their environment.
Adaptation- It is the way humans change to suit their environment.
EXAMPLE FOR ADAPTATION: When the weather is hot, you put on sunscreen.
MODIFICATION; The way people change their environment to suit themselves.
EXAMPLE FOR MODIFICATION- A highway is being built to make traffic easier
DEPENDENCE- When people depend on their environment
EXAMPLE FOR DEPENDENCE- We depend on the Sun to give us light.
PLACE- A CERTAIN AREA THAT IS UNIQUE IN HUMAN AND PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS.
REGION- an area on the earth's surface that is defined by certain unifying characteristics.
FORMAL- defined by government or physical characteristics.
Functional- An area served by a particular service. Example: Zip code- 17233 is one of Virginia's zip code
Perceptual- areas carved out by peoples views about a place.
EXAMPLE FOR PERCEPTUAL: Northern Virginia vs Southern Virginia
EXAMPLE FOR FORMAL:
MOVEMENT- the movement of peoples goods, ideas,and services.
PULL FACTOR- Things that attract you to a place.
PUSH FACTOR- Things that make you leave a place.
EXAMPLE OF PULL FACTOR- HIGHER PAYING JOBS
EXAMPLE OF PUSH FACTOR- HIGH CRIME
