MECHANISMS (Changing Type Of Movement (LINEAR-In a straight line. Examples…
MECHANISMS
-
LINKAGES
-
-
They can change: -Direction of a movement, size of a force and make things move in a particular way
-
-
Bell Cranks
-
-made up of 2 bell cranks, both pivoting on the same bolt
Parallel Linkages
-linkages based on a parallelogram can be used to make 2 or more parts move together or stay parallel to each other as the linkage move
-
Cams
-
What they do?
-a revolving cam causes a follower resting on its edge to move in a special way, depending on the shape or profile of the cam.
-
-
ESSENTRIC CAM
-
-as cam turns, follower rises by distance the shaft is off-centre and then falls by the same amount
-
SNAIL CAM
-when cam rotates, follower rises and suddenly falls.
-cam is used to give sudden movements, such as slowly lifting hammer in a clock and letting it fall sharply onto a bell
-
PEAR CAM
-one half is circular with axis of rotation through its centre. Other half is elongated so the cam looks like a pear.
-as cam rotates, follower only rises and falls against elongated part of profile.
-used on the shafts of cars. Follower remains motionless for about half of cycle of cam and during second half,it rises and falls
