VIDEO
Video Types
analogue
The original video recording method that stores continuous waves of red, green and blue intensities.
-
In analog video, the number of rows is fixed.
There are no real columns, and the maximum detail is determined by the frequency response of the analog system.
digital
Video recording in digital form. In order to edit video in the computer or to embed video clips into multimedia documents, a video source must originate from a digital camera or be converted to digital.
Frames from analog video cameras and VCRs are converted into digital frames (bitmaps) using frame grabbers or similar devices attached to a computer.
File Size Considerations
frame rate
-
Frame rates are used in synchronizing audio and pictures, whether film, television, or video
In motion pictures and television, the frame rates are standardized by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Editors (SMPTE).
image size
The width and height of a bitmapped image, measured in pixels.
The size of a graphics file, measured in bytes.
colour depth
-
Color depth is sometimes referred to as bit depth because it is directly related to the number of bits used for each pixel.
-
-
Unlike animation, it starts with a continuous event and breaks it up into frames, whereas an animation starts with frames

lossy
-
-
Lossy codecs include: MPEG1, MPEG4 and RealVideo
Most video compression technologies, such as MPEG, use a lossy technique.
-
Video compression algorithms use the fact that there are usually only small changes from one "frame" to the next so they only need to encode the starting frame and a sequence of differences between frames.

-
Refers to recording, manipulating, and displaying moving images, especially in a format that can be presented on a television.
