Eastern Europe
Economic
In 1980 a worker named Lech Walesa to organize a national trade union called Solidarity. Rapid free-market reforms led to an increase of unemployment in Poland which led to Poland’s move toward an increasingly prosperous free-market economy. Also Slovakia has managed to change from a centrally planned economy to a market economy.
Political
In Poland the government went from a communist government to a free market democracy ending 45 years of a communist government. Czechoslovakia also changed from a communist government to a democracy.
Socal
Revolutions broke out in Eastern Europe when they found out that Gorbachev decided Soviets would no longer send troops to support the government of the satellite countries. In 1980, workers’ protests in Poland led to high demands for change in Poland which led to a worker named Lech Walesa to organize a national trade union called Solidarity. Solidarity also gained a lot of support of workers of the Roman Catholic Church.
Central America
Economic
Due to droughts and decrease in economic stability, the Brazilian leader has made many attempts to stabilize heir economy. These efforts include increase in exports, a new audience of consumers, and the expansion of the middle class.
Political
The national action and Vicente fox defeated the PRI. This helped contribute the rise of multi party system in Mexico. Since 1990, many South American countries have transitioned to democracies and also reformed their economic and social structures.
Social
Mexico was having trouble with poverty and unemployment. Also there is a violent drug trade which led to the US ordering military response against the country’s drug gangs.
East Asia
Social
Rapid growth means poor working conditions. Also low salaries have contributed to labor unrest which have all grabbed the attention of labor condition organizations and the government within the areas to make needed changes.
Political
In 1979, the Chinese government adopted a one-child policy to control its population growth. This policy was due to the rapid population growth China was experiencing during the time.
Economic
Japan has witnessed slow economic growth and decline in prices which caused deflation. Deflation is a contraction in the volume of available money or credit that results in a direct decline in prices. The response to these casualties has been the government's attempt to simulate the economy.
Western Europe
Social
Women's Rights Movement have sparked conflict and angered women. These have promoted gains in women’s rights but still leave a large sum of progress to be made. Also Germans tore down the Berlin Wall which symbolized the reunification of Germany.
Political
Due to high unemployment and severe discontent an effect was a return to power for Social Democrats who won the 1998 elections, but due to their little success, a new female leader from the Christian Democrats became the first female chancellor in German History in 2005. Also in Great Britain, Margaret Thatcher who is the prime minister, failed to capture the imagination of most Britons. This caused a new election which resulted in the holding of one during 1997 which was won by a landslide victory win for Tony Blair to then become the new Prime Minister.
Economic
Replacement of former currencies by the Euro which later served 327 million people to create more stable prices for European goods being sold. The creation of the European Union allowed for a single market of all goods as numerous countries had a form of reuniting together for the better of the economy.
South and Southeast Asia
Political
New Parties such as the militantly Hindu Bharata Janata Party(BJP) have opposed and competed with the previously powerful Congress Party of India and caused a decline in its hold on the area. This later led to BJP ruling from 1994-2004 but was then once returned back to Congress Party.
Social
Conflict has risen and still remains over the Kashmir area which is the area between the two conflicting countries, India and Pakistan. The conflict is caused by opposing Hindu and Muslim groups and because of their religious differences.
Economic
The economic reforms fostered foreign investment and moved India to make a market-based economy. Agriculture is still occupied by Indians but the service and industrial sectors count for most of India's GDP.
Middle East
Political
Efforts to reach a peace agreement between the Israelis and the Palestinians, represented by the Palestinian Liberation Organization(PLO) have failed. This is due to continued terrorist attacks and disputes over territory, especially Jerusalem.
Social
Due to Anti-American desires and unfair treatment in Areas such as Libya, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and many others, protests have broken in many shapes and forms. Traditional protests are highly present and new forms for organizing these include the use of social networking which has led to the military involvement of the UN who have promptly changed ruling practices and positions throughout the Middle East. Women's rights are also limited strictly as well as other human rights by the ruling of Muslim Clerics in Iran.
Economic
Due to the high percentage of unemployment in Tunisia. The Tunisian president fled the country with the combination of large protests to add on to the fact and left the country to increasingly instability and pessimism to follow.
North America
Social
Due to the dissatisfaction with the Iraq war and a downturn economically, President Bush lost popularity by the American people. This led to a change caused by unpopularity to the first elected African American President, Barack Obama.
Economic
Canada approved the North American Free Trade Agreement with the US and Mexico. This therefore made trade easier and eventually more profitable for the US and all members involved.
Political
When feelings that NAFTA was too favorable to the US, the Prime Minister, Brian Mulroney lost a large sum of popularity. Later as an effect of the agreement, a new Prime Minister was chosen and eventually, again, another new Conservation victory occurred and Stephen Harper became the new Prime Minister.
Africa
Social
Africa has major poverty and AIDS. Also religion has led to violence in some parts of Africa. To deal with these struggles, organizations all around the globe are being created to acknowledge and assess these situations.
Economic
Many civil wars have destroyed the economy of Cote D'lvoire. Many city jobs have disappeared, about 4 million men are out of work. Also many banks and businesses have shut down and food shortages are widespread.
Political
In Egypt, protests have sparked all around the area of Cairo, caused by the brutal and torturous security force used by the Egyptian President to deal with political contrast. After 18 days of these protests, the Egyptian army took the side of the protesters who all then forced the now former president to leave the country and later sentenced him to life in prison due to his brutality.
