Economical
Many African nations are still poor, and sadly this doesn't seem to bring much concern to the international community. Around 4 million men have lost jobs and many banks and businesses are closed. Food shortages are becoming a big issue as well.
Political
Laurent Gbabo, who had been the president since 2000 had lost to Alassane Ouattara. Gbabo used violence to stay in power and Ouattara was guarded by the UN peacekeeping forces.
Social
Poverty and AIDS are widespread concerns in the region along with violence from religion in certain parts of Africa.
East Asia

In 1979 China started the One-Child Policy. To couples who followed this policy were offered things such as education benefits, health care, and housing.
Political
China took a more practical approach to try and solve its problems of poverty and underdevelopment. Many peoples incomes increased and over all life was better.
South and Southeast Asia
Social
A long term dispute between India and Pakistan took a dangerous turn when both countries decided to test nuclear war heads in 1998. Luckily, in 2003 both countries decided to call a truce and ceased fire.
Economical
Most countries in Southeast Asia have experienced a strong economic growth since 1990. This is most evident in the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Political
In the early 1990's the Congress Party had remained the leading party in India, but new parties began to form declining its power. In 1996 and 2004, the Congress Party returned to power to carry out the economic growth and the reformal of rural areas.
Eastern Europe
Economical
Russia can credit its economic growth to its exports of oil and gas. The country has an estimated 6% of the worlds oil deposits and about 30% of the worlds natural gas deposits.
Political
In 1988, the Polish regime agreed to free parliamentary elections. A new government was elected ending the 45 years of communist rule.
Social
The country of Czechoslovakia split into two separate regions due to tensions between the Czechs and the Slovaks.
Middle East
Social
Iran is still under control of Muslim clerics, who strictly enforce the Islamic law. In Iran they limit the rights of women along with the right to free assembly and a free press.
Economical
Most of the countries have a high percentage of young people, around 80% of Egypt's population is under the age of 25, most of which are unemployed.
Political
After the invasion of Iraq, the country had fallen into a civil war between the Shia Muslims (who controlled southern Iraq) and the Sunni Muslims (who controlled central Iraq). Eight months later an election was held in 2010 where Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki was elected.
Western Europe
Social
Resentment towards foreign-born residents in France created tension between the Muslim community and the remaining French population.
Political
The communist government of East Germany took down the Berlin Wall, opening its borders with Western Germany. This led to the reunification and a new democratic government.

The Regan Revolution helped reduce welfare policies, but cut spending on school lunch programs, food stamps, and job programs.
Economical
Canada approved the North American Free Trade Agreement along with Mexico and the United States Trade improved greatly for all three countries.

In 1992, when Bill Clinton was elected as president, he claimed to be a new kind of democrat. His ways were favored among republicans so in 1980 things were changed.
South/Central America
Political
In the late 1990's and the early trend changed to left-wing governments. The election of leaders such as Hugo Chavez make this a trend event.
Social
Bachelet used revenue from copper resources to fund social programs for women and children in Brazil.
Economical
Lula da Silva pursued a policy of increased trade and educational reform. This lead to the expansion of the middle class and created new consumers while it continued to increase exports.
