LYMPHOMA
AETIOLOGY
-
Inherited Genetic Factors --> Trisomy 21, NFM I
VIRUSES --> HTLV-1, EBV, HHV-8/Kaposi
-
Environmental --> H. pylori (Gastric B Cell Lymphoma), Gluten-sensitive Enteropathy (Intestinal T Cell Lymphoma)
-
DEFINITION
Destructive, clonal, neoplastic proliferation of lymphoid origin arising as a discrete tissue mass. Divided into HL and NHL.
PATHO
- DNA rearrangement for Ig synthesis is vulnerable to
genetic mutation (B Cells (85%) > T Cells).
- Dysregulated proliferation occurs, with cells resembling
some stage of B or T cell differentiation.
- If confined to Lymph Node/Solid Mass --> Lymphoma
If predominantly seen in Bone Marrow and Peripheral
Blood --> Leukaemia.
- Marrow suppression results in clinical features seen in
Anaemia, Neutropenia and Thrombocytopenia.
