Raja wanted to build a temple

after some years, Colin mackenzie visited the stupa
recorded details of the sculpture but there reports were never published
1854
Walter Elliot
visited amaravati
collected several panels and took them away to Madras
by 1850s
slabs from the stupa started to be taken away to different places

H.H. Cole
opposed the slabs being taken away
insisted that monuments should be preserved at the site of their discovery
unfortunately no one listened to him in case of amaravati
