Social
Putin's controlling rule leans towards conservative, which causes certain minorities and women to face injustices and inequality. This causes social issues and people wanting to backlash.
Economic
The Soviet Union falls apart due to extreme poverty and people being unable to feed their families. This leaves only the United States as a world superpower, and causes the Cold War to end.
Political
Russians are upset by the way Vladamir Putin rules the country. They claim the elections he holds are rigged and that he is corrupt, but there is no way to change as he is in charge.
Western Europe
Economic
The European Union (EU) was established in 1993. One of their goals was to create a common currency, which they did. The countries in the EU now all use the euros as currency.
Social
The collapse of the eastern Germany's economy cause many social problems. Since taxes were raised because of the collapse, high unemployment and discontent occured.
Political
The Berlin Wall was torn down and the two Germanys reunified, symbolizing the end of the Cold War. The new Germany became a leading power in Europe, but they faced new problems with it.
North America
Economic
The U.S. is experiencing major budget deficits. This is due to high government spending and not enough collected revenue because of tax cuts.
Social
Western countries still disagree about Women's rights. This leads to many protests, yet women still tend to remain at home with children, as what traditional gender roles intended women to do.
Political
Bill Clinton's charges of presidential misconduct kicked him out of the office. This helped elect republican President George W. Bush.
South/Central America
Economic
Many South American countries push for reforms and economic growth. Increased public education and economic growth lessened the gap between rich and poor.
Social
Violent and deadly drug wars, organized crime, and bribery towards the government from cartels are all problems faced by Mexico. These drug wars happen in Mexico because of its proximity to the U.S., where the drugs are getting sold.
Political
The institutional revolutionary party (PRI) dominated Mexico politics for 70 years. until recently when citizens were not please with the way the government worked. Now there is a multi-party system established in Mexico.
Africa
Economic
Although there has been efforts to improve the economy in Africa, other nations are ruled brutal dictators. They are even more strict because of civil war between Christians and Muslims.
Social
Widespread poverty, violence, and genocide are in Somalia. When the U.N. got involved and distributed food, warlords did not give it to the people, which made matters worse.
Political
Africa established a union similar to the EU to try to improve political stability and be more politically and economically integrated. In 1991, the OAU established the African Economic Community to help solve political and economical issues.
Middle East
Political
Iran remains under the control of Muslim clerics. These leaders strongly enforce Islamic rule, which limits basic human rights like freedom of speech and women's rights.
Social
Efforts at peace between Isreal and Palestine continue to fail due to continuous terrorist attacks and border disputes, especially in Jerusalem. Also, the war on terrorism has led many civilians dying and poverty.
Economic
More than have of the people in Egypt are under the age of 25. Most of these young people are unemployed, which causes and unstable environment with little funds per capita.
East Asia
Economic
There was not enough money in circulation to keep Japan's economy afloat. The country slipped into a recession in the 1990's facing slow economic growth and deflation.
Social
China adopted the one-child policy in 1979 to control population growth. Families that only had one child had better health care, education, and rights.
Political
China remains a Communist country even after introducing more Capitalist and free-market policies. This improves their economy immensely, and China is now a leading superpower in the modern world.
South and Southeast Asia
Political
The powerful hold of the Congress declined in India, and other parties began to emerge. This introduced a multi-party system, which led to new policies and reforms.
Social
Overpopulation in India is still prevalent despite efforts to control it. These efforts were not as successful as China's one-child policy was.
Economic
Many economists believe that India's growing economy could have the world's third highest economy by 2035. This would make the country a global superpower, like the United States and China.
