In these researches it has been shown that kids and adults with autism react to music in a mostly positive way. This is not a new development, it is something that has been known for a while when the research was newer, but it does discredit the argument that auditory therapy for children with disabilities is useless.
How effective and how practical is music in the rehabilitation of a damaged mind?

A control group, a group listening to music, and a group that got a massage. In the ICU
"The Music group had significantly better post-test VAS-A and C-STAI scores, and had lower heart rate and blood pressure than the Control group. The Aromatherapy group had significantly better VAS-A score and lower heart rate than the Control group. The 30-min follow-up showed that both Music and Aromatherapy groups had lower heart rate and blood pressure than the Control group. Music and aromatherapy interventions were both effective for ICU patients."
"The effects of music intervention were greater than that of aromatherapy; both interventions maintained the effects for at least 30 min."
The study was done at Hong Kong Polytechnic University
This study has shown that music is more effective at lowering blood pressure and anxiety from ICU patients than Aromatherapy and total silence. This could mean that they could have an effect on impaired brains.
