cellular transport
characteristics of carrier-mediated transport (active transport and facilitated diffusion can use carrier proteins)
distribution: either apical (to get stuff into the cell) or basolateral to get things to interstitial space
-
specifictiy: a specific substrate binds to a carrier protein, and the carrier protein typically works in 1 direction
saturation: everything has a limit, even transporter proteins
if you have excess glucose in your tubular fluid then your transporters get saturated w/ glucose and they will not be able to absorb it all back to blood = glucose in the urine (which is abnormal)
