Human Digestive System : (A human digestive canal ( or alimentary canal )…
Human Digestive System :
-
Digestion is the breakdown of large insoluble food molecules into small water-soluble food molecules so that they can be absorbed into the watery blood plasma
-
Carbohydrates ; an important immediate form of
energy to the body [ MAIN carbohydrates ; starch
and sugar like glucose, maltose and sucrose ]
-
Proteins ; needed by the body for growth and
repair of worn out tissue [ FOUND in foods such as
Meat,Fish and Eggs ]
-
Fats ; supplies energy to the body ( twice as much as carbohydrates ) but is mainly used as a means to store food [ FOUND in foods such as butter and cheese ]
-
The end product of digestion will be used in the cellular process such as respiration growth and tissue repair
-
Digestive enzymes are complex proteins which speed up the chemical reactions that are involved in the breakdown of food
Digestive enzymes also helps to break down the three main classes of nutrients in food into simpler soluble substances which can be diffused into the blood
-
Bacteria are tiny living beings (microorganisms) - they are neither plants nor animals - they belong to a group all by themselves. Bacteria are tiny single-cell microorganisms, usually a few micrometers in length that normally exist together in millions.
!! HARMFUL bacteria can get into our bodies from eating infected food with dirty hands therefore, it is very important to wash both of our hands before handling food !!
-
A human digestive canal ( or alimentary canal ) is a 10 meter long muscular tube that is partly coiled up inside our body
-
MOUTH ; teeth cut and grind food into smaller pieces so it is easier to digest [ physical digestion ] // Saliva contains an enzyme which begins [ chemical digestion ] of starch into soluble sugar
-
STOMACH ; a muscular bag which can push food onto the intestines. The stomach produces [ hydrochloric acid ] and [ enzymes ] which work best in these acid conditions. ( there is no digestion of starch or fats in the stomach )
SMALL INTESTINE ; most of the digestion takes place there ( a ) the [ pancreas ] secretes a digestive juice into the small intestine which helps to digest [ carbohydrates ],[ fats ] and [ proteins ]
LARGE INTESTINE ; where most of the water and mineral salts are absorbed into the bloodstream, leaving behind a semi-solid waste known as [ faeces ]
The faeces are stored in the RECTUM before being passed out tot he body through the ANUS
