Doctrine
Many people believe that doctrine such as the bible gives off various messages about who and what we should associate with. Here are a few examples.
Homosexuality is debated.
Interactions with people of other faiths are sometimes questioned.
Holidays such as Christmas or Ramadan affect what we do, and therefore, how we interact with society.
In Judaism, rules about what you can do during the sabbath restrict many things, including the amount of steps you can take.
Restrictions
Some religions don't allow you to do certain things. Here are a few examples.
In various popular practices of christianity, Lent is observed. Because of this, many people choose to give up various things and/or activities, leading to different social climates.
In Mormonism, alcohol, smoking and other harmful substances/practices are forbidden. This would prevent a Mormon from, let's say, going out to the pub with their friends on the weekends.

Many religions have codes for interaction with strangers and codes of hospitality

Some religious have very strict codes for interactions between men and women
