Does the student have an IEP?
No. Contact Special Ed department to find if there are any solutions they may have beyond what you have tried. They will most likely ask you to call parents for a meeting to follow the Green path (left).

Have I met or had correspondence with parents or siblings?
Call for a meeting to explore:
-Is the issue a recurrent problem or new?
-Is the issue constant?
-Is the issue appropriate for children of this age?
(Provide examples of work/problem areas)

What immediate need can be met practically right now before accessing support?
-Change the pace-either slow down or speed up the process-Use visual aids such as graphic organization, charts, pictures, cards-Give more clear, step by step instructions in scaffolded chunks-Guide them towards more practice of a skill in process
- Show them how to use special phrases to help them remember information
-Utilize as many of their senses as possible while learning-Allow students time to verbalize, even recording their thoughts for later-Have students explain how they arrived at their answer or conclusion or thought-Have students list their tasks and each's time to accomplish to
help them calm and settle into a structure-Encourage them that everyone gets stuck and needs to solve these problems!
-Becomes easily frustrated
-Lacks self-motivation
-Has difficulty staying on task
-Takes longer than normal to complete written work
-Begins to argue with you over school work
-Becomes anxious and stressed about homework
-Starts to leave books and assignments at school
-Has difficulty following directions
-Seems to work longer and harder with little or no improvement
-Is no longer organized and forgets projects and tests dates
-Turns in incomplete homework or none at all
-Makes frequent and careless errors
-Seems to have trouble with note-taking skills
-Struggles with basic reading, writing, math, or spelling skills
-Has difficulty remembering and does not retain learned skills
-Makes negative comments about the teacher or about school in general
-Receives notes home from teachers about classroom misconduct
