Many scholars have looked at culture in terms of the depth to which it is ‘ingrained’ in people’s psyche and their associated belief systems and attendant behaviours.
Hofstede (1994) considered moving from the shallow to the deep, through symbols, then heroes, then rituals and then values.
Schein (1985) described moving from the superficial to the deep, through artefacts, then beliefs, then attitudes and then values.
