Group Cohesiveness
Group cohesiveness refers to the degree to which group members are attracted to each other and are motivated to stay in the group.
Time spent together. The more time spent together, the higher the cohesiveness. The closer the members are located together, the higher the cohesiveness.
Goals and purpose of the group. The more committed the group is towards their goals, the higher the cohesiveness.
Group size. As the group grows, it becomes more difficult for a member to interact with all the other members. This leads to a decrease in overall cohesiveness
External threats. The greater the threat, the closer the group becomes.
Previous successes. If the group has built a history of success, it builds an esprit de corps that attracts and unites members
Rewards. Rewards given to groups for their achievements will increase cohesiveness as compared to rewarding individual efforts.
