Helps moving food through the digestive system
Helps digesting carbohydrates and proteins, and aiding other chemical reactions in the body.

cushioning the eyes, brain, and spinal cord
lubricating joints
Minerals: are elements found in food that are used by the body
Calcium: forms bones, teeth and other parts of the body and can be found in dairy products, juice, and some vegetables
Phosphorus: Produces energy and maintains healthy bones; these are found in dairy producsts, peas, meat, eggs, cereals, and bread
Magnesium: maintains normal muscle and nerve functions, helps regulate heartbeat, aids in bone growth and energy production; are found in meat, milk, leafy vegetables, whole grains, and nuts
Iron: Helps red blood cells carry oxygen; aids in energy use; supports immune system; is found in meat, poultry beans, and fortified grain products
Fats: an energy source for your body
Unsaturated fats: Eating these can lower your risk of heart disease, and are found in Vegetable oils, nuts, and seeds tend to contain more unsaturated fats
Saturated fats: Found mostly in animal bases products such as meat and dairy contain lots of saturated fats. Consuming too many saturated fats may increase your risk of heart disease
Trans fat: Produced in process called hydrogenation, which causes vegetable oil to harden. The fat then becomes more saturated. Trans fat can be found in many snack foods. Trans fats increase the chance of heart disease
Carbohydrates: The body's main source of energy
Fiber: a tough complex carbohydrate that the body cannon digest. Can move waste, help you feel full, and reduce the risk of cancer. Found in vegetables, whole grains, nut, seeds, and legumes
Complex Carbohydrates: Otherwise called starches are a long chain of sugars and are found in grain products
Simple Carbohydrates: These carbohydrates are sugar found in things such as fruit, cold cereal, milk, and more
Proteins: are nutrients the body uses to build and maintain its cells and tissues
Essential amino acids: The 9 acids that your body can produce, and is need from foods
All nine acids can be found in certain meats from animals. Plants can normally are missing one or more of the essential acids, but you can get high protein vegetables
Non-Essential amino acids - The other 11 that your body can produce on it's own and does not need from food.
Vitamins: are compounds found in food that help regulate many body processes
Water-Soluble Vitamins: Vitamins that dissolve in water and easily pass through the bloodstream during digestion. The body does not store these vitamins; any unused amounts are removed by the kidneys.
Fat-Soluble Vitamins: Vitamins that are stores in body fats to be used for later. If consumed to much they can build up to the point where they become harmful
