Limitations
Due to limits of dissertation, a lot of material from the interviews that were not covered.
Greater attention to the role of race and gender in these histories. How people respond to these histories which gave a greater voice
Greater attention to the role of maria Silvia, Elpidio's girlfriend
-
Greater attention to the Marxist dimensions of these histories, how they are portrayed as a class struggle (also in Elpidio Valdes)
Methodology: finding a more complex way of qualifying results. Ways of qualifying degree of opposition/dominance (because, for example, although María has the same amount of dominant and oppositional responses, her oppositional responses were both gesturally and vocally more vehement.
Bigger sample with greater attention to biographical data, and how ideological codes intersect with decoding process. (race/gender/level of education/societal position)
Decoding people's responses and behaviour is not a neutral process. My own personal ideologies as a researcher affect the ways in which I interpret and qualify participants' observations
Why is it important?

Many interviewees related their responses to their vision of present-day politics (especially with relation to America). How a people receive and understand certain historical narratives is a crucial endeavor, precisely because people's view of the past affects contemporary diplomacy, international relations, and domestic politics.
One only needs to remember responses to Obama's suggestion in _----- that 'Cubans need to let go of history'.
