phonology: is the study of the sound system of a particular language and how it's used by its speakers to convey meaning. It's concerned with the study of phonemes, stress and rhythm.
phonetics: The study of speech sounds and how they are produced, transmitted and received, irrespective of their meaning-making role. For example, the glottal stop is phonetic not phonemic.
