Language and Literacy, D.O.W
Read a book on different sized animals and write down attributes about some of the animal builds. E.g. lions are muscular
ACM & L&L
Children can sing and dance to songs with mammals that have different body builds. The song can be created by the teachers and even with the help of the children.
Numeracy and L&L
Children can compare the height differences between the two animals and share their findings using simple adjective like 'taller', 'shorter' etc
Aesthetics and Creative Movement,D.O.W
-Children are to pick a feature that they want to work on and design and create a craft using that feature. For example, choose an animal such as a fox, to draw and re-create a fox's fur. Using texture, the teacher will provide children with various materials of different textures to complete their artwork
L&L & A&C
Children will be creating a mindmap based on the different features of an animal they like and they will be tasked to draw some of these features within the mind map itself. The teacher will lead this activity by asking open and close-ended questions to help children list down items for their animal features.
DOW& L&L
Teacher can read a book or show a video about a porcupine/hedgehog and briefly explain/discuss the special features of the animal for example quills. Then children will draw a scenario of how the hedgehog or porcupine uses their quills in their everyday lives. E.g protect themselves from other animals, opening cans etc (Up to children imagination)
DOW and L&L
Get the children and their parents to bring an animal from home and they can do a show and tell session on the animals they brought as well as let the other children observe the animals. Teacher will then create discussion on where else do you think you can find mammals and get children to think and translate it onto a mindmap.
DOW and A&C
Get a guest speaker from GDS to come to the preschool with a guide dog for the children to interact with and gain knowledge and awareness about the blind in Singapore and also how this dog helps them. The children can then discuss the features of the dogs that make it suitable to be a guide animal for the blind.
L&L and A&C
children can create their own animal masks and roleplay as the animals listed on the placental tree. Teacher can come up with a made-up story and allow children to role-play scenes together.
L&L and A&C
The teacher can read a storybook about marsupials and discuss the different animals within the category and have the children move around like the animals listed. Teacher can give intro on animals that are unfamiliar to children through videos or online images, animals such an Sloth.
L&L and A&C
The teacher can show a music video about how the Elephant moves and involve the children in dancing and singing the song or video. Children can then write a short paragraph about how the animal moves, e.g. An Elephant goes, stomp, stomp, stomp.
A&C and MSD
Children will pick a plancental animal at random and have to move around the class just like how the animal they picked moves. Music will be played in the background indicating the speeds of their movements.
Aesthetic and Creative Movement, MSD
-Sing a song about Fruits, Plants, Vegetables, Meat (Maybe healthy pyramid song)
-Dance to the rhythm of the different food like light foods tiptoe
Numeracy and L&L
matching activity of animals to the food they eat. E.g matching picture of Monkey to the food word for 'banana'
L&L and DOW
Explore the different types of food that different animals eat and choose an animal to craft a market list for. For e.g. If child chooses dog, his market list would contain items like Dog food.
Social Emotional Development & L&L
Sharing session// Discussion session about hunting of the different undomesticated animals. Example hunting for Rhino horns, after children see the different rhino parts up for sale, how do they feel? etc
DOW & L&L
Children will watch a short video clip of hyenas in the wild as they hunt for prey. Teacher will then prompt discussion amongst children to talk about the survival skills hyenas need to hunt/survive in the wild. E.g hyenas work in packs to take down larger prey, they have sharp claws etc.
A&C & MSD
Children will get to watch a short clip on Kung fu Panda and note the actions that he does in the clip. Teacher will then go through the steps with children before allowing them to try on their own. Teacher will then play music in the background and children will dance like the Kungfu Panda. Children will then be asked to dance random animals along the way such as Elephants, Lions etc.
For example, Snakes slither and hiss so children will 'slither' and make hissing noise.

Children can share about how they would feel owning these animals and which one they like the most and why it is their favourite.
A&C & L&L
Children will get to design their own pet houses for their favourite//dream pets and state the uses/purposes of certain things they put in their pet house. E.g. I have a dog bowl in my pet house for the dog to drink water from. (in their own words)
Numeracy and L&L
children will participate in forming a graph of the domesticated animals that they own. After that, the children who do not own any animals can contribute by listing down what animals they would like to own ad share why.
Numeracy(Matching) & L&L
Children will be tasked to have a mini competition amongst themselves as the teacher will ask questions about the different types of animals that help people. Video clips of guide dogs, police dogs, and the other animals listed here will be shown and the teacher will discuss and talk to children about the uses and distinct features for identifications. E.g. police dog wears a police vest while a guide dog wears a harness.
DOW & L&L & A&C
Children will be showed a video on the different animals that aid transportation for humans. The children will pick one that they would like to try if they had a chance and draw a picture of them on the transport and explain why they would like to try this mode of transport in the form of show and tell.
DOW& Numeracy & L&L
Teacher can set-up a role-play section for children to buy products that can be found in the supermarkets. Some children will be the shop owner, others will be customers and the teacher will be a facilitator of the activity. Children will be given 'money' to purchase items on their special market list and they have to fulfil the items by the end of the lesson. Children will have to interact with one another to communicate their needs to one another. E.g "I need 2 rolls of wool please." and the shop owner should reply, "It's 2 coins please." and the customer replies, " Thank you."
