So incorrect amino acids are inserted into the polypeptide leading to nonfunctional or toxic peptides and the breakup of polysomes into nonfunctional monosomes

Absorption
Very little is absorbed after oral administration and more than 95% is eliminated unchanged in the feces

Adverse/Side Effect
serious allergic causes rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing
Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea if taken oral route

most likely of all the aminoglycosides :
damage the kidneys and the auditory branch of the eighth nerve
serious side effect : difficulty walking, numbness/tingling, muscle twitching or weakness, seizure
