epidermis, dermis, subcutaneous fascia
melanocytes: located deep in epidermis; responsible for skin color; they produce melanin; affects skin color

bilirubin: liver disease occurs; jaundice occurs b/c yellow pigment is deeper in color, bilirubin builds up
ecchymosis: bruising caused by skin, blood, circulatory problems, physical abuse
layer below epidermis is called dermis: aka corium; true skin; contains capillaries, collagenous and elastic fibers; sweat glands, nerve endings, involuntary muscles, hair follicles, oil glands, lymph vessels
subcutaneous fascia/ hypodermis: elastic, fibrous connective tissue and fatty tissue; lipocytes produce fat needed for padding to protect deeper tissues and act as insulation
