The surname King dates back to Anglo-Saxon Britain and is derived from the term cyning "king". It was most likely a nickname for someone who acted or looked kingly.
Mum
Nelson is an English/Scottish surname derived from the medieval names Nel or Neal. It is approximately the 39th most popular surname in the United States.

ANCESTORS
My great-great grandma Edith Buzzard (married name - Cook) (my mums mums grandma) was adopted from England in 1907. She lived in Texas and worked as a cotton picker.
Grandpa Phill (mums dad)
I'm related to Daniel Boone through my great grandmother (grandpa Phill's mum). He was a pioneer, explorer, trapper etc. He was well known for his exploration and settlement of the state that we now know as Kentucky. He traveled through North Carolina and Tennessee, through the Cumberland Gap as well as the Cumberland Mountains and into Kentucky where he founded the settlement of Boonesborouge. That village was one of the first American establishment west of the Appalachians. His route became well known and used and by the end of the 18th century more than 200,000 Americans had migrated to Kentucky. He has remained somewhat of a figurehead of the American frontier. A TV show based on his life was made and aired in the late 60's.
The TV show is a good example of cultural appropriation. Not only is the indigenous man in the series named "Mingo" which is an Algonquian name meaning treacherous and stealthy, he is played by a white actor (Ed Ames). The show paints an unrealistic picture of indigenous people and the diversity of culture throughout different nations.
I also have distant relations to either the Hatfields or the McCoys (no one in my family can remember). The families had a long standing feud that often involved death. They lived on either side of the Sandy River (separating Virginia and Kentucky). The Hatfields were led by William Anderson "devil Anse" Hatfield, who owned a timbering operation. The McCoys were led by Randolph "Ole Ran'l" McCoy who was a farmer. The real violence started when Asa McCoy was murdered by an uncle of Devil Anse Hatfields.
