Explain The Example
Wrap It Up
This example of feeling superior is a great example of how Minhaj used rhetoric for his specific audience to show them the uneven distribution of power.
His audience being a majority white audience feels empathy for this situation but also laughs because,” the aftermath of a story being told has never happened to [them]; [they] feel that [they] are above such humiliation.”
They will never experience this because being the majority they are not “different.” The audience feels for the author and in a way experiences the actions that they may have committed to a person of a minority community. His audience is also younger and may not have seen things the way their parents might have at the time the author describes so they get to experience is like their parents did.
One example he uses to appeal to his audience emotions is when he was attacked because of the fear that white people had towards different people right after the attack on 9/11
He grew up in Davis around the same time that 9/11 happened.
He describes his life growing up and being one of the few colored people around at that time
