LAYERS OF THE HEART WALL
-
Endocardium- Inner layer; lines the chambers, valves, vessels.

BLOOD VESSELS
ARTERY TYPES
-
Arterioles- the primary sight for resistance. Arterioles feed blood into arterioles then to the capillaries for diffusion.
-
CAPILARRY TYPES
-
Sinusoid- Large fenestrations and an incomplete basement membrane. Protein and Red blood cells can pass.
-
VEINS
Medium-sized veins- This vessel lacks both an internal and external elastic membrane. The tunica adventitia is thicker than the media.
-
Large veins- A vein characterized by having a reduced or even absent tunica media and adventitia with large bundles of longitudinally composed smooth muscle.
PLASMA AND BLOOD CELLS
Erythrocytes- red blood cells; carry oxygen, waste, and hormones throughout circulatory system.
Leukocytes- 5 types:
-
-
Eosinophils- Rare in the blood but numerous in the mucous membranes of the respiratory, digestive, and lower urinary tracts. Primarily deal with parasite infections.
