LANGUAGE

LITERACY

EMERGENT LITERACY

INSIDE-OUT
Refers to children’s
understanding of the rules (i.e., that letters form
words, that letters represent sounds, that
punctuation marks carry meaning) for
translating print into sounds or sounds into print
OUTSIDE-IN
Refers to children’s
knowledge of the context (i.e., the meanings of
words)
BLENDED LITERACY
Instructional delivery method that leverages the effective use of technology to maximize (not replace) quality teacher instruction by increasing the amount of time each student is engaged in learning
In addition to familiarising students with technology who may not have the opportunity otherwise,
students can use technology for learning as opposed to mere consumption.
It extends opportunities for learning beyond the classroom.
