Carrie James- Disconnected with New Media and the Ethics Gap
Studies raise the questions are we teaching youth to be empathetic online?
Do we teach students how their online actions have consequences or impacts?
I don't teach much about empathy online
What is developmentally appropriate and for 3rd grade?
Are we teaching moral sensitivity online? When?
Online we leave ourselves vulnerable because we are sometimes unidentifiable
Our youth show that we live in a self focused thinking culture
There are blindspots that people have which are unconscious
This connects with me because I wonder how we can insure that we are teaching our students to be well rounded and digital citizens online so there are less "blindspots"
Reflecting on this I can see how my self thinking culture reflects online
OER's

Hubert Drefus- Anonymity vs. Commitment
Kierkegaard
Noting it too trivial on the internet
No one cares where the sources came from
No one considers the consequences of what they read or post online
If you have a commitment that has relevance than you can turn information into knowledge
How can we teach making commitments as a strategy?
How can we teach students to search with intent and what to do if they get sidetracked?
How do we do things when we are not intrinsically motivated to do so?
